The story takes place in the 1930s in the United States of America. Victims of the financial crisis dance in a competition where the main prize is a large sum of money. It is a tale of poverty, hunger, money, and the struggle for survival.

It is also a story of determination, dreams, hopes, and perseverance. It's a story about illusions and their loss, about something breaking inside a person, something that cannot be put back together.

The characters of this story are the prototypes for the characters in Jessica Bruder’s acclaimed reportage "Nomadland" who, after the recession of 2007-2009, adopted a transient lifestyle, traveling across the United States in search of seasonal work. They sell their homes because they can no longer afford to keep them, switch to campers, trailers, vans, and hit the road. The Great Depression of 1929-39 and the financial crisis of 2007-2009 force people into similar behaviors. They are ready for anything to fight for their dreams. They are ready for anything because they are fighting for survival.
