A reconstruction of the thrilling match between Iga Świątek and Naomi Osaka from the 2024 Roland-Garros semifinals. Iga Świątek won a match that, for over two hours, seemed impossible to win. Naomi Osaka even had a match point, but Świątek fought back from 2-5 in the third set and 0-30 in the next game. Commentators described it as one of the best matches of the past year, full of emotion and extraordinary twists. This theatrical recreation allows audiences to relive those moments.

The drama of this match – driven by the stakes and the determination of both players, whose fates hung in the balance as they fought for every point – was inherently theatrical. The tennis players delivered a suspense-filled spectacle for the audience. Fans also played their part, sometimes ignoring the rules of the game, as Iga Świątek herself remarked after her victory.

But how do you recreate all of this in the theater? How do you convey the players’ bodies and minds during a three-hour contest? Their reactions when they are “one point from defeat”? And what triggers spectators, viewers, and media audiences to cheer, support, or criticize one player over the other?
