Eternal Rodeo

The matter of Eternal Rodeo is bodies, voices, momentum, and effort. Drawing on the logic of sports spectacles, concerts, and circus, the performers subject their bodies to tasks that set in motion a flow of intensity between them and the audience. Emotions become a task, a competition, but also a shared event. They pass from body to body, loosening the need for interpretation and leaving the audience above all in the experience.

What happens when emotions cease to be something private and become something shared? When the body balances between what is instinctive and animalistic and what is metaphysical; between what is experienced and what is revealed, also to oneself? At times, we try to stay on the back of our own nature; at others, we allow ourselves to be carried by it. The effort to maintain balance becomes at the same time an attempt to find harmony with something greater than individual experience.

During the creative process, I focus primarily on what kind of experience the audience is meant to have and how to achieve it. My works are not spectacles or performances, but rather events unfolding here and now; their purpose is to have an intense impact, not to tell a story. I create situations in which people can bypass theatrical convention and truly see one another – entering into a living, energetic interaction. That is why each of my works is, to some extent, a story about the encounter itself, and it was the same at the Pantomime Theatre. - Anna Karasińska.
