Best Dance Performance Alpine Symphony, dir. Cezary Tomaszewski, Wrocław Mime Theatre (Szymon Kazimierczak)

Best Dance Performance Radosław Rychcik, together with the ensemble of the Henryk Tomaszewski Wrocław Mime Theatre, developed a remarkable choreographic approach for the stage adaptation of Horace McCoy’s novel They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?. Unlike Sydney Pollack’s well-known film, this production embodies and guides the narrative of the dance marathon differently—centered around the figure of a circle, stretching between athletic running and dance duets. Every scene unfolds as if in slow motion, intensifying the embodied effect of the contestants’ exhaustion. Moreover, strong references to economic crises and rising inflation create an impact on the audience, making the story resonate with contemporary times. (Anna Królica)

Best Dance Performance Just Three More Times – choreography and performance by Wojciech Furman, premiere at the The Spaces of Art – Dance Festival; production: Wrocław Mime Theatre
