WORKING WITH A DIRECTOR

Led by Agnieszka Kulińska

The workshop will primarily focus on experiencing and practicing the director's work with actors in movement theater. We will adopt two perspectives as starting situations: motion action using pantomime technique and stage dialogue with text. We will explore both convergent and divergent points between these approaches to the themes, which will be implemented simultaneously during the workshops with Zdenka Pszczołowska. Participants will learn how to work with text and movement dialogue, conduct an analysis of selected texts and characters, break down text and movement into themes, and search for subtexts and the ambiguity of stage actions. We will discuss how other staging elements like space composition, music, and lighting impact the interpretation of scenic action. The work will be both individual and group-oriented, during which participants will experience tasks related to both acting and theatrical directing.

WORKING WITH A DIRECTOR

Led by Zdenka Pszczołowska

The proposed workshop focuses on individual and collective actor work with a drama director. During the sessions, we will explore the possibilities of integrating techniques from dramatic and post-dramatic theater into mime theater. The workshops will mainly involve exercises in individual and collective improvisation, as well as the basics of character/role development inspired by RPG games and the fundamentals of building relationships between characters. We will test how these elements of the process function in movement theater and at the intersection of pantomime and drama. This workshop complements that of Agnieszka Kulińska; both workshops will cover the same topics, allowing for a better understanding of the mimetic and dramatic process and a comparison of the convergent and divergent points of both conventions.
